SUMMARY:The Muddy Keppel Gravel Ride
DESCRIPTION:UPDATED Oct 12\, 2026 – Due to west side rail trail “work”\, I’ve changed the return route into Owen Sound to avoid most of the rail trail from SR15 to Benallen.  We’ll leave the rail trail at Girl Guide road\, continue onto Vault Works Rd\, take West Street to 24th St West\, 4th Ave West and 19th Street West to Kelso Beach.  The updated route link is attached. \nThis will be the official OSCC end-of-gravel-season ride! The Farmer’s Almanac calls for wind\, rain\, mud\, large puddles and potholes in mid October in Grey county.  Embrace our Fall weather and wrap up the gravel season with this challenging ride. \nThe start and finish is from the Boot and Blade Restaurant\, 1135 2nd Ave East\, Owen Sound\, N4K 1T8.  When signing up for the ride\, please note in the ‘group’ column if you will (Y) or will not (N) be staying for a bite to eat after the ride. \nThere will be NO organized groups. All riders MUST download the route on a device OR carry a paper map of the route (these will be provided) AND ride with a cell phone. \nThere will be a ‘sweep’ (i.e. a rider that will follow the last rider).  The sweep will carry a cell phone and a first aid kit. Otherwise\, there will be NO marshals\, direction markers or aid stations. \nRiders at the front may push the pace as they wish to add to the challenge but please obey all road signs.  All roads remain open to vehicles and pedestrians. \nThis 77 km (465 m climbing) counterclockwise tour of Sarawak and Keppel townships includes a steep and walk-only descent at the north end of the Gordon Sutherland parkway down to East Linton SR.  The climb to Skinner’s Bluff on the Colpoy’s Range Road is also quite sketchy and will probably require it to be hiked rather than ridden. Kudos to you if you can safely climb this section! Other challenging\, but ride-able\, segments are the middle section of the Sarawak Keppel Townline\, Colpoy’s Range Road and SR 15.  Prepare for variable surfaces\, potholes\, loose gravel\, large stones and large puddles in these segments. \nThe only award (TBD) will be given to the rider with the Muddiest Selfie.  For this reason\, wearing an all white kit may be to your advantage :). \nI am hoping this will become a yearly end of gravel season ride.  Hope you can make it! \nBrian O’Doherty \nSign up here \n\n  \n

SUMMARY:Sunday Nov 1st Road Ride (74 KM Birthday Ride)
DESCRIPTION:I decided with the 16 degree weather forecast for Sunday\, November 1st\, I would plan my 74 km birthday ride\, rather than wait till the 8th when the temps will be hovering around 8 degrees. \nThis is a sanctioned OSCC ride and having said that\, there are a couple things to keep in mind. \nStart time 11 a.m.   (don’t forget you get an extra hour to sleep in!  Remember to change the clock) \nThe route is 74km and I am hopeful everyone will do the entire distance.  However\, if you opt to shorten the route on your own you will be leaving the sanctioned route and would continue independently apart from the club. \nNote that the start and finish are in separate locations.  The start location is at the end of Conc 3\, the West Rock parking area.  The finish is at Kelso Beach by the splash pad parking area\, where the sanctioned ride ends.   Hopefully you can arrange a drop off at the start or arrange a ride from the finish back to your vehicle. \nIf you have questions\, please call or text at 519-477-2475 \nThe ride will be a “B” pace  \n\nSign up HERE \n
