Attention women and girls… We are offering a free ride for a day. You do not have to be a member of Owen Sound Cycling Club or any club. Just register and come out on May 20th for a fun day.
We look forward to meeting you and welcoming you into the fun activity of group riding. The aim of this event is to introduce women and girls to group riding and to celebrate the the freedom and independence that riding a bicycle offers to women of all cycling abilities. So come on out and “ride like a girl”!!
As you proceed through the registration you will be asked a few questions about your cycling goals and group riding experience. This is to help us make this a fun and safe learning experience for you.
Please remember that wearing a bicycle helmet is MANDATORY. Your bicycle should be in good working order (gears and brakes especially) with tires properly inflated. This will be a road ride so a hybrid or road bike would be most appropriate. A water bottle or hydration pack and an energy bar is a good idea too.
The ride will take place on Sunday May 20, 2018 at 2 pm at the Owen Sound City Parking Lot #8 located at 1st Ave E and 8th St. E, Owen Sound. Register with CCN Bikes online at: https://ccnbikes.com/#!/events/womens-ride-day-2018-owen-sound
If you have any questions about the ride please contact Ann at: annmarie58.west@gmail.com
If you have questions about registration please contact our Membership Secretary
If you already are a member or OSCC or an OCA club you do not need to register. Just email Ann at: annmarie58.west@gmail.com to let her know you plan to attend.
The Canadian Mental Health Association of Grey Bruce is encouraging the community to jump on their bikes to raise awareness for mental health in the 5th annual Ride Don’t Hide event on Sunday June 24, 2018.
Ride Don’t Hide started in 2010, Michael Schratter, a Vancouver school teacher and columnist, cycled around the globe to raise awareness and funds for mental illness. This has been a very successful endeavor. CMHA hopes to make this into a nationwide annual event, where riders will cycle for change from the negative stigma which shadows mental illness.
This year’s Ride Don’t Hide will be held on Sunday June 24, 2018 starting at Kelso Beach Park in Owen Sound with routes for every skill level. Participate in the 100k, 80k, 50k, 25k routes along one of the most beautiful scenic routes in Ontario along Grey Road 1. An all accessible in-park route is also available for families, individuals and those that wish not to ride on the road. A BBQ lunch, entertainment & all kinds of fun activities will also be offered on this day.

New OSCC Kit
OSCC has a new logo and a new jersey/bib/short design (or kit). If you are interested in purchasing any of these, head down to Runner’s Den in Owen Sound where you can try on sample sizes before you buy. The sample kits will be at Runner’s Den until August 25, so you better get down there before they are gone. Once you find the size that fits, put your name on the list at the Den and indicate whether you want a jersey, shorts or bibs. Also indicate the sizes and gender you wish to purchase. Depending on numbers purchased, the price of jerseys will be around $50 to $60 while bibs will come in between $70 and $80. As soon as we know how many to order we can let you know the price.
Joanne has prepared a full list of this season’s Tuesday and Wednesday rides, complete with Strava maps of the proposed routes.
You can find a link to it here.
As always, if there is a discrepancy between this list or the calendar check with the ride leader. Generally, the calendar is kept up-to-date, but the embedded document could become outdated.
In case you missed this on the Bulletin Board…
